Writing at Paris Fashion Week AW24 with Irish designer Róisín Pierce
Michelle Freya’s poetic work was showcased at Paris Fashion Week AW24 in collaboration with Irish designer Róisín Pierce at Pierce’s AW24 show for her 5th collection, O Lovely One, Girl That Fell From a Star. The poem is titled Angel of Hope.
The show and collaborative poetry was covered by magazines including Vogue, Numero, WWD, The Irish Examiner, DSCENE, and Notion.
“It is such a delight to work with Michelle Freya. Her thoughtful words painted such a clear picture and acted like a springboard for my design concepts and even the finer details. I felt she understood the vision I wanted to conjure and the underlying meaning, which was important to me. The way she carefully deployed language which captured so much narrative and meaning but relayed the message so gently was beautiful. The poem as a whole was serene and ethereal and it felt like each word was thoughtfully chosen to transport the reader - and me as a designer - to an ethereal dreamlike world. It can be tricky to trust someone else to bring an internal story to life, but Michelle truly acted as a guardian for it as she gave it shape with such grace.”- Róisín Pierce
ANGEL OF HOPE
O lovely one, girl that fell from a star
Sent by celestial worlds of hope
Arisen from the morning’s seafoam in her sweet cloth
Sent by angels
She is carried in a shell beneath the sky’s endless cradle.
Can you hear that? Sweet bells ring out a joyful sound
As she places her feet on Earth to walk to us.
Sorrow is the sparrow perched upon her ivory silk and pearl,
Of whom she carries in order to triumph against pain.
Watch the sparrow take flight
As our angel, girl that fell from a star, hands over bouquets of myrtles and roses,
And conveys to us bright love and golden intentions.
Draped in brilliant white, her halo of delicate lace
Floats like baby’s breath,
Our angel of hope has come, milk of paradise,
Encompassed in puckered florals
And lace of shimmering light
To translate to us the language of the stars.
She herself is joy, sister to necessary sadness, the essence in which she is seen
Sweet like rose cups; her a message softly spoke
To the ear of heart
And the individual spark found in self
As pristine with powerful emotion as Purgatio the dove,
Drifting abstract wings and garment of cloud,
She wades through even dark waters with her silver orb,
The high and the low
Learning to love one another again and become
The essence of above.
